KATE FINNAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
My name is Kate Finnan, and I am beginning my sixth year as Executive Director of UASP, and ninth year overall. My background is in child development and art education, and I have also worked as a summer camp director, tutor, and outdoor educator. I love having the opportunity to provide creative and engaging programming in a fun environment for each of our kids at UASP, and am very excited to have our full staff team back in action this year, to bring these experiences to our students! In my personal time, I love making art, hanging out with friends and family, and being active outdoors. I look forward to another great year at the After School, and welcome both new and returning families to our UASP community!
KRISTY DRAUSCHKE, PROGRAM MANAGER
My name is Kristy Drauschke and this will be my third year working in an administrative capacity at UASP, and my sixth year with the program overall. I love helping to create a feeling of community at UASP and I value making connections with students, especially when working on creative projects. In my free time, I enjoy going to concerts, knitting, painting, and hiking. On most days, I can be found doing some kind of art project, whether at UASP or at my house. I'm most excited about generating some new ideas this year for special programming such as parties, field trips, and sports competitions. I am looking forward to welcoming back our returning families and meeting all of our new folks as well!
JOSH GOLDMAN, LEAD TEACHER KINDERGARTEN & ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
My name is Josh Goldman and I am the Administrative Assistant and Lead Kindergarten Teacher. This will be my 5th year at UASP and 3rd working with kindergarten students. I spent this summer working at a couple of camps in Newton and travelling to Gloucester to play music at the Gloucester Stage Company. Throughout the year, I will be continuing to perform at theater companies in and around Boston. I also love to cook, listen to music, and explore the city for restaurants in my free time. This year, I’m excited to introduce my students to new books, new music, and to learn everybody’s favorite activities to help make our program great!
JOE DOWNEY, LEAD TEACHER, PHOENIX
My name is Joe Downey, lead teacher of the Phoenix Squad. This is my fifth year and I am so excited for this one. We are starting a youth program this year that is going to be amazing, also two more plays! I worked in Southie this year as well as traveling to Europe for the first time.
SUZY MIRVIS, LEAD TEACHER, GRYPHONS
Hello! My name is Suzy Mirvis and I’m so excited to be back at UASP for my 3rd year! My background is in informal museum science education but this is just one of my specialties. I love doing crafts, working with new technology, playing theater and drama games, trying new sports and cooking creative recipes. I’m hoping to do a whole lot of those things this year with my afternoon K group and my after school older group. In my free time I like biking, hiking, kayaking, reading and eating pineapple pizza.
GUERIN MORISSETTE, LEAD TEACHER, HIPPOGRYPHS
My name is Guerin Morissette and this is my first year at UASP! I am the lead second grade teacher with Mr. Dan. I studied Writing, Literature, and Publishing and Comedy Writing and Performance at Emerson College in Boston. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in School Library Teaching at Simmons College. I enjoy sports, eating, and spending time with my family and friends. I’m looking forward to an amazing year and to make new friends!
DAN HAMMOND, LEAD TEACHER, HIPPOGRYPHS
My name is Dan Hammond. I’m the lead teacher for the Hippogryph team alongside Ms. Guerin. I studied history and anthropology at Brandeis University. This is my first year at UASP. I’m also currently an aide at Cabot Elementary School here in Newton. I love sports, music, theatre, outdoor activities, and writing. I’m so excited to be teaching a fantastic group of second graders. Go Hippogryphs!!
CRISPIN SWANK, LEAD TEACHER, CENTAURS
My name is Crispin Swank and I’m the lead teacher of the Centaurs. I love to teach kids how the power of their unique perspectives can create a fulfilling and fun space for everyone. As I enter my third school year at UASP, I look forward to guiding my students through their challenges and my interests, especially music, math, and science. Outside of UASP, I perform music and theater and organize the greater Boston folk music niche. I’m excited to start working with the 2016-2017 Underwood Owls—come one and come all!
DIANE COCUZZO, LEAD TEACHER, ELVES
My name is Miss Diane; I have been at UASP for 9 years. I am going to be a floating teacher. I also work in the lunch room. I enjoy having another opportunity to work with the students. I am going into my 23rd year working there! I am looking forward to another exciting year with the children and great staff.
AMELIA GARAPETIAN, SUBSTITUTE & FLOATING TEACHER
My name is Amelia Garapetian and this is my fourth year at UASP. This year, I will be the floating teacher several days every week. During the day I work upstairs as part of the first grade teaching team, and I have previously taught Spanish as an extra-curricular activity at both private and public schools. I am eager to meet our new students, and welcome back everyone who is returning. I am looking forward to a great year!
